Rheinbahn is the name of the public transport provider for Düsseldorf and the region. 7 Underground railway lines, 13 tram lines and 91 bus lines make for a dense network. The City Line map is especially designed for passengers with limited mobility.
Please refer to the Rheinbahn City Line map for detailed information about lines and stations.Rheinbahn City Line map. Please note that due to construction work alterations to the timetable may occur. For timetable information please go to the VRR homepage.
Underground
For ease of boarding please use the door marked with the appropriate symbol. It is located at the centre of the train. The door is marked on the outside with a flashing signal above the door. It only flashes while doors are open.
Many underground and overground city railway stations have raised platforms. The height difference to car floor level is only slight. A gap of up to 8 cm must be negotiated between platform edge and train. The map indicates Underground stations with lifts. It also indicates high-level platforms above ground that are equipped with ramps.
Tram
The front most door opens for wheelchair users. The door opener button has a wheelchair symbol. Room for wheelchairs is available opposite the door area. A stop request button is within reach.
Low-floor trains run on the following lines:
- 701, 703, 708, 709, 715.
On other lines they only run at certain times. Learn more about the timetable on
- phone +49 180 3 50 40 30*.
Low-floor trains may stop at stations with an entrance height of less than 8 cm. At other stations you may have to negotiate an entrance height of 8 - 12 cm. The difference between train and platform edge at those stations is in general smaller than 8 cm.
Bus
Rheinbahn low-floor buses accommodate wheelchairs in two sections. One is on the right hand side next to the second door. The other is opposite the second door. Low-floor buses may stop at stations with entrance heights below 6 cm. Sometimes entrance heights of up to 12 cm have to be negotiated. Most buses have folding ramps. These buses are marked correspondingly on their front side.
Low-floor buses are presently mainly operated on the following lines:
- 721, 737, 785, 834, 835, 836
Service for passengers with visual impairments
The upcoming stop is announced in all vehicles through the public address system. Many stations have a tactile guidance system for cane walkers. It guides them to the vehicle or to the exit.
Handrails in many underground stations and some overground stops have signs in Braille at their front end. These indicate the travel direction. A distinctly raised marker ring around the handrail indicates a change in the succession of steps. These markings require right hand traffic.
As an additional service Rheinbahn offers acoustic passenger information at some stops. Upon the push of a button the departure of ensuing trains and buses will be read out aloud.
Assistance service for passengers with limited mobility
Staff members of Rheinbahn's Assistance Service are at your disposal on all lines. They help you with boarding and alighting or operating the ticket machine. They will be there for you as secure company throughout your entire trip.
This service is offered every workday from 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Appointments - at least one day in advance - at:
